(More customer reviews)I have been playing bass now for over 20 years, everything from metal to funk to country.I can say without a doubt, the German made Warwick Corvette 5 string (black hardware and Nirvana black finish)is the best sounding and playing bass I have used so far. I purchased my Warwick and instantly fell in love with the sound. Even with the passive MEC pickups, it had the characteristic Warwick growl. The B string is tight with no slop and the adjustable bridge make setting the action a breeze. The saddles are innovative, allowing even the string spacing to be changed to individual taste. The 2 piece bridge is set in the body, not mounted flat and adds to the sustain. The neck is ovankol with a wenge fretboard which lends itself to adding to the overall sound of this bass.I like the bell brass frets, and while they tarnish and need to be cleaned frequently, the sound they produce, to me, is second to none. The frets are all seated properly with no snagging of the fingers. This bass came with the plastic Just A Nut 2.The nut height is adjustable to allow trying different guages of strings.I may upgrade to a brass Warwick nut because I've read about problems with the allen screws stripping or breaking on the plastic units. The body is a bit odd, but comfortable to use seated as well as standing. The body is made of swamp ash and is pretty heavy.A good leather strap keeps things well balanced and I have experienced no neck dive. The unique truss rod cover and the pots/battery access hatches are a nice feature. No screwdriver needed to remove the covers and no tiny screws to get lost. Almost every review of this bass say the same thing concrening the weight and the care that needs to be taken with the oiled/stained body.It does require a weekly coat of wax (supplied with the bass)but it dosen't take very long to polish, and a little goes a long way. Warwicks even come with a trapper keeper with tools, including a groovy T-handled truss rod wrench and a set of bridge wrenches. The keeper also stores your manual, a can of wax, x-tra strings, and the polishing cloth. The Warwick brand is a bit pricey, but as an active musician, it was well worth the money. Warwick has become my bass of choice with no comparisons. Try out a Warwick, you'll be glad you did!
